I’m so excited to share the cover of The Unraveling of Cassidy Holmes!
Funny story: when my editor and I were discussing the cover, I sent a Pinterest board of what I liked and vibed with, and explained why. In my other life, I am an artist, so visuals are very important to me and I was worried that I would end up disliking or even outright hating the cover that would be designed for Unraveling.
My editor, Asante, finally shared the art department’s mockup with me after a long pause, and prefaced her email with a long explanation. None of what I described worked, she said. It felt dated. It felt like it was trying too hard to be [a different book]. It looked like historical fiction, which — in a way, Unraveling *is*, but it’s set in the 2000s, not the 1940s.
And she sent me this. And I loved it.
There was another possibility too, a blue version, but it wasn’t as striking at this one. I loved the Hollywood sign reflected in the Cassidy’s sunglasses. I loved that the sunglasses looked like a pair you’d find in the early 2000s (think Alan Cumming in Josie and the Pussycats movie). And the orange, which was not anything I’d expected from the cover at all, was absolutely striking. I told my agent how much I loved it, and together we told Asante how much we loved it, and the artists cleaned it up a bit and made it perfect.
I’m so excited to see this cover on shelves in September!
